- Abstract
- Basilian monasteries in Poland-Lithuania functioning in the 18th century. This layer contains all information about monasteries collected in the project: ID, name (basic, variant, modern), political and administrative affiliation, ecclesiastical affiliation, location (WGS-84 coordinates), dates of their existence as well as arrangement types (how each monastery was arranged internally and against its vicinities). Records representing monasteries are multiplicated due to one-to-many relation in the source database in case there is more than one attribute related to a single monastery, e.g. two arrangement types. Most attributes are available in Polish and English. Sources/attestations can be provided on request (please contact dataset Authors). Column Descriptions: Object ID: Unique database identifier for the monastic complex. Name_PL: Name of the Monastery in Polish. Name_Variant: Variant(s) of name in Polish. Name_Modern_EN: Present official name of the Monastery in English transcription. Call_PL: The historical invocation or dedication name of the monastery chapel/church in Polish (e.g., NarNMP for Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary). Palatinate: The historical administrative region (voivodeship) within Poland-Lithuania where the monastery sat. First order / Second order / Third order / Fourth order: Hierarchical ecclesiastical or regional jurisdictions tracking the complex's internal network grouping. State_1770 / State_1772 / State_1793 / State_1795: Political sovereignty trackers mapping which empire controlled the monastery location during successive Partitions of Poland-Lithuania (e.g., Rzeczpospolita, Austria). identification_certainty_EN: Data-quality indicator capturing historical accuracy (e.g., certain location vs. uncertain location). Date_start / Date_end: Chronological boundaries tracking the recorded temporal span of the monastery within this study. Arrangement_PL / Arrangement_EN: Characterization of how the buildings sit within the landscape (e.g., monastic complex location: riverside, buildings arrangement: irregular). Longitude / Latitude: Coordinates in WGS-84 ellipsoid.
